How long does honey last?
Pure honey, when stored properly, has an almost indefinite shelf life due to its natural properties that resist bacteria and spoilage. Properly stored honey in a sealed container at room temperature can last for many years without spoiling.
However, over time, honey may crystallize or change in texture and appearance. This is a natural process and doesn’t necessarily indicate spoilage. Crystallization occurs when glucose in the honey forms crystals, making the honey thicker and grainy. To return crystallized honey to its liquid state, gently heat it in a warm water bath (not boiling) or microwave it in short intervals, stirring until it liquefies again.
In summary, if stored correctly, honey doesn’t really expire. It may change in texture or crystallize, but it remains safe to consume. Keep it tightly sealed in a dry place at room temperature to maintain its quality for an extended period.
